The South Carolina PDA is proud to endorse the following candidates for 2010

Dobbs wins another debate.

(Pawleys Island, SC) Robert Dobbs was the clear winner of Democratic 1st Congressional District debate held on Pawleys Island on Monday night. While his opponent reiterated his support of war, Mr. Dobbs came out strongly for healthcare not warfare.

Mr. Dobbs stated that we need to help the average person at home, his opponent advocated a tax to support the wars.

Mr. Dobbs, whose slogan Working for You, Not Washington, was clear that our priorities should be with the people in the district, of the special interests. The topics of the debate ranged from the wars overseas to gang violence at home, it was clear that Mr. Dobbs stood with the pewople of the First Dustrict as their advocate.

Robert Dobbs is nationally endorsed by the Progressive Democrats of America.

NATIONAL PDA BACKS SC CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE
February 25, 2010
For the first time ever, Progressive Democrats of America has issued a national endorsement of a candidate in South Carolina.

Robert Dobbs, candidate for Congress in SC District 1, received the PDA national endorsement. Mr. Dobbs, a businessman from Myrtle Beach, entered the race last year. He previously received the endorsement of the South Carolina PDA, according to State Coordinator Patrick C. Labbe. Mr. Labbe went on to say that the endorsement was given based on the progressive values that form the core of Mr. Dobbs' campaign. "Robert Dobbs represents a real change from politics as usual," stated Mr. Labbe.

Mr. Dobbs recently won an online poll conducted by the (Charleston) Post and Courier, coming in ahead of all candidates, both Republican and Democrat.

 Dear Fellow Democrats:

Recently, Robert Burton, came out strongly attacking Robert Dobbs on his stance on ending the unnecessary wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Burton is for continuing a policy of draining the American economy fighting two no win wars, when as Robert Dobbs pointed out in a recent debate that the TRILLIONS could be better spent at home on UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE, GREEN JOB CREATION and EDUCATION. Does South Carolina need to elect Robert Burton and more of the same? It's about time we elect a true Progressive!  Support Robert Dobbs for the Democratic Nomination for Congressional District 1. Go to :  http://www.electdobbs.com/. The Democratic Party needs Robert! South Carolina needs Robert! America needs Robert! Let's send a true Progressive to Congress, not just more of the same!  PDA Endorsed Candidate Wins Debate

On January 30th, Charleston County Democratic Party hosted a debate between the three Democratic candidates for the 1st Congressional District. Robert Dobbs, the PDA endorsed candidate, easily won the debate. Robert's answers were concise and specific. Robert was clearly in support of Progressive values and policies. Unlike, his two opponents he supports a single payer healthcare system, ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, creating green jobs and opposing off-shore drilling and nuclear power, Robert clearly stated that the money being spent in Afghanistan could be spent to provide jobs and healthcare for every American here at home Robert was unwavering in his opposition to off-shore drilling and nuclear power plants. The overall theme of Robert's stance was Healthcare not Warfare and his support for single-payer health coverage. We here at SC PDA are proud to support Robert in his campaign to become the Congressman from South Carolina. Robert Dobbs may be contacted at electdobbs@live.com

Mike Ruckes
for United States Senate

For United States Senate

Mike Ruckes, a PDA member from Summerville SC. Mike is a dedicated to progressive values and will fight for those values in the United States Senate. We urge all South Carolinians to support Mike in his effort to defeat Senator Jim DeMint. Demint has shown that he has a blatant disregard for the people of South Carolina and their well-being.

Mike, who is a strong progressive has been a strong supporter of Single-payer Healthcare and believes the least we need is a strong public option. As a former union member, Mike is four square in favor of the Employee Free Choice Act as a way of empowering workers and building a strong middle class. Mike has stated his support for troop withdrawal from both Iraq and Afghanistan. Mike believes "stimulus money should go to Main street and not Wall street."

Mike has clearly stated why he chose to run against Senator DeMint:"For too long, Republican Jim DeMint has ignored the needs of Main Street America, while catering to the whims of Wall Street. For years, Republican Jim DeMint has believed that the way to win elections is to divide the country along political, social and economic lines. In following this strategy of division, Republican Jim De Mint has consistently supported legislation attacking the core middle class values that have made America the envy of the world. To restore this state’s strength, we need a government that works for everyone and not just the well connected elite…a government that is fair to all and not just to the wealthy…a government not afraid to hold itself accountable to the people who elected it and not just to the Washington Lobbyists. My campaign shall support the Democratic platform, and will foster core middle class values of hard work, entrepreneurial ingenuity and educational achievement." Mike Ruckes is a former UAW member and currently works in management with Honeywell Corporation in Charleston SC. Visit Mike Ruckes' web site: www.mikeruckes2010.com.

I believe that the way to restore this country’s traditional strength, and to prepare South Carolina to meet the challenges of the 21st century, is to bring people together around the middle class values of:

  • Hardwork
  • Entrepreneurial ingenuity
  • Educational Achievement

Robert Dobbs
for Congressman
SC First Congressional District

Robert states the reason he is running is "Henry Brown has a record of voting against issues that would help the 1st District. Brown voted against discretionary spending for housing, transport and urban programs in the fiscal year 2010; Brown continues to vote for more money being spent in the stalemate called Iraq rather than voting to take care of Americans that need it; Henry Brown voted against the SCHIP Extension; Henry Brown didn’t vote for "Pay-As-You-Go" rules; Henry Brown only knows how to get earmarks for the 1st District when he knows he is in election trouble, otherwise he calls the budget requests as "pork laden".The 1st District needs a representative in Congress who will bring Federal dollars back to the district for the projects we need. We don’t need another "No" voting representative in Congress who cannot get projects funded nor who does not get along with the opposition. No one wants to see Washington take money from our paychecks but at least our Congressional representative can see that we get the most back to our district we can. I intend on being a representative in Congress that will bring our money back to help our district and ensure our government is fiscally responsible as well."

Robert further states: "For the second year in a row, South Carolina has the worst violent crime in the nation, according to the FBI. While the murder rate is slightly down, aggravated assaults and burglary are up. Law enforcement in our District needs appropriate funding to combat the increase in crime. South Carolina is severely under funded and under resourced for probation and parole. The 1st District needs appropriate Federal funding for the cleanup of Superfund sites in the District. Currently we have a large number of areas that are in need of funding.

Robert Dobbs, owns and operates a restaurant and pub in Myrtle Beach, as a small business owner he supports small business the engine of the United states economy. Visit Robert Dobbs' web site: www.electdobbs.com .

My goals are to be a citizen's representative, supporting all citizens of the 1st District and being an advocate for those citizens who are unable to voice their concerns in Washington, D.C.  The 1st Congressional District needs leadership in Congress to improve the quality of life for all of the residents of the 1st District and provide true representation for the needs of the 1st District in Congress.

Robert Dobbs is a member of the Progressive Democrats of America.
